It was a South Iowa Cedar League Sigourney basketball sweep Friday over the visitors from Belle Plaine. The Savage boys took the contest 70-32. Sigourney sprinted at the start up 25-5 after one and 47-16 at the break. The Savages won the second half 23-16 to finish the win. Sigourney shot a blistering 59% as a team to 34% for Belle Plaine. The Savages won rebounds 34-17, assists 18-4, steals 11-3 and turnovers 15-4. Eight Sigourney players scored with John Berg’s 22 points leading the way, he and Brayden Wood each had six rebounds. Berg added five steals. Solon Yates scored 14 and Hunter Sellers 11, Ike Molyneux had six assists. Sigourney is 2-0 on the year with Belle Plaine dropping to 0-3.

The Sigourney girls used a high intensity defensive effort to get the win 48-11. They were leading 14-4 after one and going on a 19-1 run during the entire second quarter to go on top 33-5 at half. Sigourney won the second half 15-6 including a 13-2 third quarter run. The Savages forced 38 Belle Plaine turnovers. Brynn Clarahan had an epic double double with 32 points and 13 steals.
