The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys wrestling team came up short in three duals on their home mat Thursday. The Hawks dropped contests with River Valley Conference foes West Branch 53-30, Tipton 42-24 and Dyersville Beckman 47-18. Top Mid-Prairie performers on the night included Tommy Miller with three wins, two by pin, Trevyn Riley with three wins, one by pin. Brock Fisher and Cameron Crawford each had 2-1 nights with a pair of falls, Josh Turner and Will Snider each had a pin. Following action Miller and Riley joined KCII Sports to talk about their nights.
Riley said, “In my win I had a tripod, then I put a cradle in. Having the crowd get loud helps us get that energy.”
Miller continued, “I go into every match with the same mindset. Past matches don’t matter. Anything can happen in a match and getting two pins tonight felt really good I put a lot of work in. Going through the fundamentals might get boring sometimes but nitpicking the little things allows you to do them correctly and that’s what helped me tonight. The wins feel exciting. Knowing you brought it home for the community. When you have that feeling of having your hand raised in front of your fans you feel accomplished.”
The Hawks are now 0-6 on the dual season and travel to Regina Thursday.
