Dr. David Larson, family medicine physician at Jefferson County Health Center, has announced his retirement at the end of this year, after 40 years in the position. Additionally, Larson will receive the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Iowa Academy of Family Physicians.

Larson has served the Fairfield area for 35 years. He began his practice with the Fairfield clinic in 1990 before joining the staff of JCHC in 2016 following a merger between the center and the clinic.

According to JCHC, fellow family physician Dr. Sebastian Harris said of his colleague, “Dr. David Larson has spent nearly four decades caring for the Fairfield community and advancing family medicine through his leadership at JCHC and in statewide professional organizations. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he is beloved for his warm personality, good humor, love of the outdoors, and genuine kindness.”

The IAFP Lifetime Achievement Award is selected each year by a committee consisting of other family physicians. Nominees are also submitted to the committee by fellow physicians.

To celebrate Larson’s career and award, JCHC has invited patients, colleagues, friends, and community members to join them in honoring Dr. Larson’s outstanding career and Lifetime Achievement Award. A retirement celebration will be held on Tuesday, December 30, from 1 to 4 p.m. at JCHC.
