
Longtime conference foes Hillcrest Academy and Highland left Riverside Tuesday with a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader split. The Huskies took the girls contest to open the night 55-24. The Highland defense was the story early, pitching a shut out against the Ravens in the first period to lead 9-0 and a 20-6 run in the second gave the Huskies a 29-6 lead at the break. Highland won the second half 26-18 to finish the win. The Huskies shot 33% to the Ravens 16%, won rebounds 52-41, assists 15-2, steals 20-6 and turnovers 26-14. Kamryn Fink headlined the Highland side with a 19 point, 14 rebound double double. Katelyn Thomann had 13 points. Hailey Brun, Autumn Guseman and Thomann each had three assists. Claire Withrow was the Raven leader with a 10 point, 10 rebound double double. Highland moves to 3-1 with the win, while Hillcrest drops to 2-1.
The Hillcrest boys scored a 68-39 win to close the night. The Ravens were on top 23-11 after one and 36-20 at the half. They won the second half 32-19 to finish the victory. Highland out shot Hillcrest 46%-43% from the floor, each team made five threes. The Ravens won the boards 31-21, assists 17-6, steals 20-3 and turnovers 26-13. Rowan Miller led Hillcrest with 21 points and five assists, Kale Bailey had 20 points and seven boards and Gibson Scott 11 points and six rebounds. The Raven boys are 1-0 on the young season. The loss dropped Highland to 0-1.
