Iowa’s snowmobilers are reminded of an update to laws regarding permits. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is reminding Iowans that they no longer are required to purchase and display an annual trail user permit. That law went into effect July 1, 2024.
The trail user permit has been placed into the annual snowmobile registration fee. That fee is $30 plus administration fees.
If you have not yet registered your machine, you will need to do so at your local county recorder’s office. If renewing a permit, it can be done in person at a county recorder’s office or online at www.gooutdoorsiowa.com.
Any snowmobilers who do not reside in Iowa will still need to have a trail user permit. They can get those through any county recorder’s office, online, or at retailers that sell hunting and fishing licenses.
