The girls wrestling season started fast Tuesday night at the Sigourney-Keota Tournament with five teams from the KCII listening area in action.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks had the highest area team finish taking eighth in the field of 24 with their score of 81 points. Eddyville-Blakesburg won the team title with 178 points. The Golden Hawks were powered by a pair of senior champions. Sophie Miller won the championship at 155lbs on the back of a 4-0 night that included three falls and a major decision, including a title bout pin of Breegan Ellison of Moravia in under 90 seconds. Ellie Callahan won gold at 190, pinning her way to the top spot on the podium including a championship match fall over JZ Ward of Grinnell in under a minute. Other Golden Hawk highlights included Austyn Sexton third at 110lbs and Etta Bell fourth at 100lbs.

The home Savages best finish came from Karley Greiner in third at 155lbs who went 2-1 on the night, with a pair of pins. Sigourney-Keota was ninth with a team score of 71 points.

Two took home top three medals for Lone Tree. The Lady Lions Olivia Magruder was runner-up at 135lbs, pinning her way to the championship match before falling to Miley Kirkpatrick of EBF. Fay Eyler was third at 235lbs after a 2-1 tournament. The Lady Lions were 14th in the team race with 48 points.

Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union had a pair of juniors, Rozlynn Garza and Jada Moats finish fourth at 130 and 170 respectively to lead. Each had a pin. The Wildcats finished 20th with 35 points.

The Washington Demons had a pair finish on the varsity podium. Brynlee Flynn split two matches on the night, including a pin, to finish runner-up at 100lbs. Ryha Wellington was fourth for the Demons at 155lbs, splitting four matches. Washington was 21st with 31 points.

For the WACO Warriors, Emorry Davis at 115lbs and Makayla Morrison at 120 each had a contested match pin. The Warriors finished with six points for 22nd place.
