The federal government shutdown lasted 43 days, and many programs were paused during that time.

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley shared what his priorities are now that the government has reopened, “My priorities after the shutdown are getting Pharmacy Benefit Managers, we call them PBMs, they make the price, the rebates, the formularies for what goes on in pharmaceuticals, we think they drive up prices, nobody knows what they do. We ought to get them under control. Another one would be the defense bill, we call it the National Defense Authorization Act NDAA. And then of course getting all of the appropriation bills passed so we don’t have to have another shutdown.“  When asked about the possibility of another shutdown Grassley stated, “Of course there is, and there shouldn’t be. Let me tell you, my answer to that. It’s really my support for (the) Senator from Oklahoma’s bill. He had a vote on it two or three years ago and it got 56 votes and needed seven votes. Senator Lankford’ s bill would be an automatic continuation of government at the end of a fiscal year if you don’t have the appropriation bills passed. He should get that up again, and I’ve told him that and I would vote for it again, because these shutdowns are stupid operations.”

The bill to reopen the government was signed by President Donald Trump last week, and extends funding through January 30th.
