
This fall, six local districts had their middle school athletes finish the season at the Washburn Classic State Cross Country Meet in Ankeny.
The Washington Demons had a pair of eighth graders compete in the girls Class 3A championship race. Olivia Lujan finished 27th of 147 runners with a time of 13:25 while Sophia Lujan was 34th in 13:37 across the two mile course. Harper Winegarden of Williamsburg was the winner in 11:27.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks had boys and girls teams in both 2A races. The Golden Hawk girls finished 12th of 13 squads with a score of 179 points. Tipton won the title with 43 points. Top Golden Hawk girls finisher was seventh grader Keilah Fleming 15th of 127 in 13:15. Txori Gomez of Denver was the overall winner in 12:17. Other Hawks included Audrey Huber 93rd, Zoe Waters 98th, Chloe Fay 99th, and Ariel Carranza 114th. The Mid-Prairie boys were 13th of 19 schools with their score of 207 points. Team champs in 2A were Jesup with 29 points. Top Golden Hawk was eighth grader Jacob Lothamer 32nd of 151 in 12:29. Overall boys winner was Caden Lucchesi of Roland Story in 10:55. Other Hawks included Berk Poll 85th, Leo Swartzentruber 95th, Josiah Liddell 104th, Solomon Feltes 109th, Jackson Rodgers 122nd, Jeremy Overy 132nd, Aven Jaspering 134th, Nolan Mohling 142nd, David Popejoy 144th and Joshua Seale 149th.
The Hillcrest Academy boys had their team compete in the 1A championship race, finishing 16th of 22 schools with a score of 252. English Valleys was meet winner with 55 points. Eighth grader Braxton Ropp was best for the Ravens in 55th of 176 with a time of 13:07. Overall winner was Griffin West of Starmont in 10:59. Other Hillcrest athletes included Merle Cronquist 105th, Paxson Wilson 115th and Everett Ward 116th.
Sigourney had five total runners compete in the boys and girls 1A races. The trio of Sigourney boys were led by eighth grader Brody Seeley 32nd in 12:41, followed by seventh graders Brentley Kephart 123rd and Colton Voyles 154th. For the Savage girls, eighth grader Jayde Snakenberg was 23rd in 14:01 with seventh grader Lorelai Klett 138th.
Lone Tree seventh grader Kolt Ackerman was 80th in the boys race in 13:36 and Columbus eighth grader Bryson Lawson-Welborn was 94th in 14:06.
