Wapello native Harper Atkinson took the field at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday as the Iowa Hawkeyes’ Kid Captain when the football team played against Oregon.

The 10-year-old, who has what doctors at the University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital call a truly unique condition, was able to wave to the children’s hospital from below rather than viewing it from above.

Harper has managed what the university refers to as “spontaneous bone fractures” since she was a toddler and may be the only person in the world with her condition.

As the Kid Captain, she was able to choose the song for the traditional Hawkeye Wave after the first quarter, selecting “This Is Me” from the movie musical “The Greatest Showman.”
