The Mid-Prairie School Board accepted a $1.3 million bid for the West Elementary Addition at its meeting on Monday.
The bid was awarded to Burlington-based SG Construction for $1,349,172. District Business Manager Jeff Swartzentruber explained it was the lowest bid and the one recommended to the council by district staff.
The bid was one of six submitted. The board also rejected an alternative bid which would have replaced the asphalt underneath the West Elementary playground with concrete.
The project is being paid for with funds from the 2024 general obligation bond. Those funds are also paying for the district’s new wrestling facility, which is expected to be completed early next year.
The West Elementary project is slated to begin construction in February or March, weather permitting. The district’s target competition date is August 2, 2026 ahead of next school year.
