After successfully making it through qualifiers last month, four area high schools will send dance teams to the state competition in Des Moines next month. Two local individuals will also compete at state, which will be held December 3-5. 

Mid-Prairie, Highland, Lone Tree and Winfield-Mt. Union are all sending teams in at least one category.

Mid-Prairie’s team events will compete that Friday, performing in jazz at 10:20 a.m., poms at 11:43 a.m., and hip hop at 8:14 p.m. Mid-Prairie’s two individual qualifiers, Meadow Flynn and Drea McCain, will perform on Thursday, with Flynn taking the stage at 11:12 a.m. and McCain following at 11:20 a.m.

Highland’s teams will compete on Thursday, performing poms at 10:55 a.m. and contemporary at 7:03 p.m.

Lone Tree will also perform on Thursday, with the Lions’ dancers taking the stage at 10:32 a.m. for poms, 3:59 p.m. for lyrical, and 7:30 p.m. for jazz.

The Winfield-Mt. Union team will dance on Thursday as well, with novelty at 5:46 p.m. and jazz at 7:10 p.m.

The competition will take place at the Casey’s Center and EMC Convention Center, formerly known as Wells Fargo Arena and Hy-Vee Hall.
