
The brightest stars in Southeast Iowa high school volleyball will take the court Saturday at Burlington High School in the 2025 Southeast Iowa Volleyball Classic. Twenty-four total players representing 13 different schools will get their time in the spotlight. That includes a pair of local athletes from the KCII listening area.
Washington Demon senior Leighton Messinger will take the court one more time in the black and orange. Messinger finished 2025 as the Demon’s school record holder for career kills, hitting the 1,000 kill milestone during the most recent year. She was named Southeast Conference Player of the Year this fall, the third straight season she has won the award, piling up a conference best 320 kills, a second in the SEC .271 swing efficiency, 245 digs, 25 aces and 22 blocks.
Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves senior Quin Smith will also be in action. The Lady Wolves star finished fall leading the team with 132 kills and 36 blocks. Those numbers were seventh and fourth in the Southeast Iowa Superconference respectively. Smith’s 42 aces were seventh in conference to go with her 68 digs, and .132 swing efficiency.
Those two athletes will be joined by players from Burlington, Central Lee, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Holy Trinity Catholic, Mediapolis, Mount Pleasant, Burlington Notre Dame, Van Buren, Wapello, and West Burlington.
On the sidelines will be Washington Demon head coach Aaron Six. He just finished his fifth year at the helm of the Demon program, guiding them to their first 20 win season in more than 20 years at 21-14. He has 73 total wins at Washington during that five season span. Other coaches in the match include Burlington’s Lindsey Johnson, Central Lee’s Amy Cook and Van Buren’s Salena Sayre.
The 32nd annual Southeast Iowa Volleyball Classic gets underway Saturday night at 7p.m. At Burlington High School.
