Success on the court this fall is leading to a full trophy case in the hallways at Washington High School as the Demon volleyball team was recognized by the Southeast Conference with six spots on All-Conference squads.

The Demons had a pair of first-teamers including senior Leighton Messinger. She finished the season with a conference best 320 kills and was second in the SEC with a .271 swing efficiency. Other stats for Messinger included 245 digs, 25 aces and 22 blocks. Messinger was also named Southeast Conference Player of the Year for the third consecutive season.

Junior Layla Green was also a first-team choice. Green led the conference with a .318 swing efficiency. Her 45 blocks were best for the Demons and seventh in the league. Other numbers for Green included 172 kills and 31 aces.

Second-team selections for Washington included senior Taylor Miksch. She ended the year with 205 kills, eighth most in conference, and 35 aces ninth most. Miksch also piled up 188 digs and 17 blocks.

Sophomore Reagan Miller was Second-team SEC. Miller led the Demons with 55 aces, eighth most in Iowa in Class 3A. Her 500 assists were also best on Washington’s roster and third most in conference. Miller also finished with 229 digs, 95 kills, and 17 blocks.

Washington had a pair of Honorable Mention picks. Senior Carys Miller was seventh in the confernece with 278 assists. She also added 103 digs and 11 aces. Junior Ellie Farmer joined Miller as Honorable Mention. She led Washington with 314 digs, sixth best in the conference, to go with 65 assists and 14 aces.

The Demons ended the season with a 21-14 overall record, their highest win total in the last 20 seasons, and a 9-1 mark in conference play.
