A Mt. Pleasant man was arrested following a vehicle chase and on-foot pursuit Wednesday.

According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 4:08 p.m., 40-year-old Victor Wenke did not yield to emergency lights and led officers on a chase through Mt. Pleasant, eventually leading them to the Oakland Mills Campground. Once arriving at the campground, Wenke fled on foot into a nearby corn field. 

A sheriff’s office K9 unit was called to the scene, which tracked Wenke into the field. Once he was found, he surrendered and was arrested on charges of operating without an interlock, possession of drug paraphernalia and interfering with official acts, all simple misdemeanors, driving while license revoked, a serious misdemeanor, eluding or evading second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor, and an open container violation.

Wenke is being held at the Henry County jail on $2,000 cash bail, his initial appearance is set for Friday.
