
A 29-year-old Fairfield man serving a prison sentence died on Sunday.
According to the Iowa Department of Corrections, Mason Simons was pronounced dead at 7:07 p.m. on Sunday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Simons had been serving a two-year sentence for several counts of driving while barred as a habitual offender, all aggravated misdemeanors, since March. The charges originated in Washington, Jefferson and Van Buren Counties. He was also convicted for criminal mischief, a serious misdemeanor.
He had been scheduled for release for November of 2027.
