Area fifth grade students had a hands-on educational experience recently as part of the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day. Students learned about how to stay safe at home, on farms, and in their communities through the program presented by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.
Students learned about a variety of safety topics including: fire, animal, roadways, bicycles, grain bins, ATVs, lawn equipment, and first aid. Each topic had a station providing practical demonstrations and lessons with real-life safety situations. Students rotated through the various stations. Presenters included Washington County Health Center, the Washington Fire Department, Sinclair Tractor, Sun & Fun Motorsports, Farm Bureau Financial Services Ann Williams, the Farm Bureau, and FFA students from Mid-Prairie, Washington, and WACO.
The Progressive Agriculture Safety Day is part of a national program that offers age-appropriate and hands-on educational experiences.
