The best on the cross country course in the Southeast Iowa Superconference got together Tuesday night at Hillcrest Academy and when the dust cleared, the WACO Warriors stood alone with the hardware.
The No. 4 in Class 1A WACO Warrior boys ran down their team title with a score of 73 points, beating second place No. 12 in Class 1A Louisa-Muscatine’s 83. Jude Dykstra made it a Warrior sweep, winning the individual title by more than 15 seconds in 16:47. After the meet, the group of Warrior champions talked with KCII Sports about the win. “We came here to win! Just win! Run our hearts out. Give it everything. PR. This is really exciting. There were a lot of ranked teams here, and a lot of the other teams ran really well today too, so to win is amazing. It’s great to see all the training we did over the summer pay off. We have a great group of guys this season and it feels really good to have it pay off with this group of people. It’s that level of excitement because we are all so close as a team and that final feeling of ‘We did it!’ is almost indescribable. (We’re going to celebrate) with a pizza party! The job’s not finished. We still have to get to State and perform at even a higher level there than we did tonight!”
