Eighteen Mid-Prairie singers travelled to West Liberty for the River Valley Conference Honor Choir.

High school students Georgia White, Emma Smith, Tabitha Fisher, Wren Harris, Maëlys Beachy, Keelin Reinier, Abrielle Kraus, Brock Lowenberg, Sophia Puttmann and Zoe Forbes were joined by middle school students Logan Van Demark, Adric McClellen, Caleb Billups, Lilly Campbell, Gloria Clark, Mackenzie O’Brien and Eveleigh Denlinger at the honor choir.

The students all sang five songs at the honor choir, with three songs apiece for the high school and middle school choirs individually, one combined song each for the treble clef and bass clef singers, and one song with a mass choir of all students at the event.

Mid-Prairie High School Choir Director Collette McClellen discussed what the opportunity meant for her students to work with the choir’s director, Jeremy Manternach from the University of Iowa, “He does a lot of research into voice health, which is great for singers who want to take care of their voice forever and be able to sing when they’re 80 or 90 years old.”

The Mid-Prairie choirs will next perform at the school’s annual Veterans’ Day ceremony on November 11.
