Hydrant flushing will take place this week in Kalona’s Southtown and Richmond neighborhoods, potentially impacting water customers in the area.

Low pressure and discoloration from city water is possible during the hydrant flushing process. The hydrant flushing is scheduled to take place this Tuesday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, hydrant flushing is a process which helps to decontaminate drinking water, and the process is commonly used as a preventative measure by cities.
