The Washington Demon football team became the latest victim of the No. 3 Solon Spartans Friday night, dropping the contest 42-0 in a game heard live on KCII.
Washington would begin the game with the football, and while a fourth down trick play out of a punt formation would keep the drive alive, Solon would still force a stop. Even after Nic Stone’s punt forced the Spartans to drive 95 yards, they would do just that for the game’s first score on an Eli Kampman one-yard sneak to make it 7-0 in the closing stages of the first frame. Right before the quarter would end, a high snap would give Solon the ball right back in the red zone. However, the Demons would turn away the Spartans when Stone stepped in to pick off Kampman, his second INT of the season. When Washington punted again, the flurry of 28 straight second quarter points began, starting with a 65-yard Kampman to Owen Bock TD pass to make it 14-0. A Lucas Feuerbach fumble recovery inside the Demon five yard line would prove costly again, as Maddox Kelley plunged in from a yard away to lengthen the advantage to 21-0 with 8:14 remaining in the half. Another bad snap on the ensuing Washington possession would give the Spartans another short field, and they cashed in again when Kampman found Kelley for a 10-yard scoring toss. The onslaught would end with a 28-yard punt block return by Simon Einwalter to make it 35-0 at the break. With the game well in hand and the running clock enacted, Solon would punch in one more score in the fourth on Kampman’s third TD pass of the day, this time a five yarder to Cody Milliman to lock up the shutout win.
Unofficially, the Spartans won total yardage 317-99, including gaps of 186-59 in the pass and 131-40 in the run game. Turnovers ended 2-2 for both sides. For the Demons, QB Kael Williams completed 13 passes for 46 yards and rushed seven times for 29 yards. Stone also completed a pair of passes for 13 yards and hauled in six passes for 35 yards. For the Spartans, Kampman finished 16 for 21 for 186 yards and three touchdowns, carrying six times for 48 yards and another TD. Kelley had a rushing and receiving touchdown. Milliman secured five catches for 44 yards and his late TD.
After the game, Washington head coach Kelly Williams joined KCII Sports live on the Community First Credit Union postgame show to recap how the night unfolded.
“Just made too many mistakes offensively and then in special teams. There was just a few plays on defense where they gashed us. [It was a] Good program that we faced tonight,” Williams said. “Ultimately, when we watch the film I think it’s going to hurt. It shouldn’t have been 42 to nothing. Just made too many mistakes tonight.”
With the win, Solon raises its record to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in district play, while Washington drops to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in district competition. The Demons take the field next Friday when they welcome the Fort Madison Bloodhounds for the final contest at Case Field in the 2025 season.
