Hillcrest Academy will celebrate homecoming this weekend with activities being held on Friday and Saturday, October 10th and 11th.
The celebrations will begin with the Ravens’ volleyball team hosting a match against Rivermont Collegiate out of Bettendorf on Friday night. JV is scheduled for 5 p.m. and varsity will start at 6 p.m.
At 6:30 p.m., festivities will move outside for the annual alumni soccer game. This year’s alumni game will honor Hillcrest Soccer Coach Marcus Miller, who completed his final year of teaching in the spring. Miller, who has over 300 wins on his record and a state championship, will continue coaching the Ravens on the pitch in the spring of 2026.
Hillcrest Director of Advancement Jeremy Ours described what Miller, and other long-standing coaches have meant to the Hillcrest community, “We’ve been around a long time, over 75 years, and that’s that’s essentially what what we’ve been for this local Kalona and and Wellman, maybe even call it Mennonite community, is this place where, folks from all perspectives, and opinions, and upbringings can come together.”
On Saturday, the school will host the Joetown Classic 5k run at 10 a.m., and the weekend will conclude with the school’s annual pork dinner at 4:30 p.m. The meal will cost $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $6 for children 4-12, and free for children three and under.
