A Mid-Prairie High School sociology class is honoring the history of the school and is hoping to involve the community in the process.
The students are creating canvases that all staff members, past and present, are asked to sign. The signature artwork will be hung up across the district as a long-lasting display that will grow as the school’s history marches on.
The project began with a challenge from the class’s teacher, Schuyler Snakenberg. He asked students to create a project that would improve the community, the state, or the nation. The students responded by creating this project, which they hope will bring positivity to the area. Senior Griffin Caskey described what inspired the project, highlighting the class’s daily discussion of current events, “I mean almost every day, there’s very few positive news stories that are going on. Our goal is just to draw the media to something positive that’s going on, promote kindness and promote recognition of those who deserve it and everyone around us.”
The project will begin on October 10th at Mid-Prairie’s home football game, where staff members will have their first opportunity to sign the canvases. The students involved in the project include Caskey, Johnathan McCain, Thomas Stacey, Maya Banuelos and Paiton Chittick.
