Healing at English River Outfitters (HERO) is hosting a chili cookoff and hayrack ride this weekend. 

This family-friendly community celebration will feature multiple events, including hayrack rides, a chili cook-off, and a kids’ fishing derby. The event will begin at 3 p.m. HERO is located at 2564 305th Street, south of Washington, about seven miles off of Wayland Road. 

HERO is a non-profit organization that was established in 2008 and is operated by volunteers who work to help veterans and provide a variety of events. This includes events like hunting and camping trips for veterans at no cost to them. They offer a quiet, relaxing recreation area for veterans and their families, with a particular focus on accommodating disabled veterans and serving Blue Star, Silver Star, and Gold Star families. 

Funds raised from Saturday’s event will go towards the continued services for veterans and their families.
