It’s been twice as nice for the Washington Demon volleyball team this week as they posted a pair of wins.

The first victim were the Van Buren Warriors, who the Demons swept away on a road trip to Keosauqua Monday. Washington was a winner by 25-16, 28-26 and 25-12 scores. Demon leaders included Carys Miller with 18 assists and eight digs. Reagan Miller matched her 18 assists and added four blocks and three aces. Leighton Messinger finished with 14 kills and 12 digs, Layla Green had nine kills, three blocks and three aces.

Tuesday it was a key conference contest, as the Demons beat the Burlington Greyhounds’ in their Homecoming match, walking out of Carl Johanssen Gym with a four set victory. Washington was a winner 25-19, 25-21, 22-25 and 26-24. Stat-leaders for the Demons included Reagan Miller with 30 assists and 27 digs. Leighton Messinger with 24 kills, 21 digs and two aces. Ellie Farmer with 21 digs. Carys Miller with 19 assists and three aces. Taylor Miksch with 15 kills and three aces. Layla Green and Addison Miller each had two blocks. This week, Washington junior and KCII Athlete of the Week Layla Green spoke on the KCII PM Sports page about what the Demons are doing well during their winning streak. “I’d say we were very scrappy. We’ve been able to pick up balls and make sure that we were moving all over the place. Making sure that we had communication about who was going for the ball. Keeping it in play was a big factor.”

Washington has now won five straight and 10 of their last 11 to run their record to 14-8 overall and remain unbeaten at 4-0 in Southeast Conference play. The Demons are back in action next week against Fort Madison.
