
When comparing August of 2024 to August of this year, only five counties in Iowa have experienced decreases in unemployment: Adair, Adams, Clay, Sac, and Worth. The other 94 counties all experienced increases in unemployment rates.
Washington County saw a slight decrease in unemployment for the month of August.
According to recent data from Iowa Workforce Development, in August, Washington County’s unemployment rate was 2.9%, down from 3% in July. In addition, it is an increase from August of last year when the rate was 2.4% unemployment.
Statewide, the unemployment rate was 3.8% in August, an increase from 3.2% a year ago.
Across Iowa, Iowa County has the highest unemployment rate at 6.4%. Meanwhile, Sioux County has the lowest at 2.2% unemployment.
