The Lone Tree Community School District is changing its approach to its nutrition program, focusing on preparing more food on-site in response to changes to nutrition funding.

According to district Superintendent Tyler Hotz, the adjustment is in response to increase in food costs over the past several years as well as reductions in incoming federal grant dollars.

Lone Tree is not the only district experiencing nutrition budget challenges, with Mid-Prairie Business Manager Jeff Swartzentruber saying that his district was also examining the possibility of bringing more food production in-house to help reduce costs.

Lone Tree announced the rollout of the program and the first day of its implementation on Friday with a handmade lasagna meal created by staff on-site.
