hcph-2

This week is Child Passenger Safety Week, and Henry County Public Health is offering free car seat inspections for families in the county.

In the inspection, HCPH will check that the seat is the correct size, properly installed, and hasn’t been recalled by the manufacturer. They will also provide information on when children should move to a larger car seat.

To schedule an inspection appointment, residents can call HCPH at 319-385-0779.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, children should use a car seat until they are at least eight years old, and from 8- to 12-years old should use a booster seat until they are able to fit properly in a seat belt. Proper seat belt fit requires that a child is tall enough to keep their feet flat on the floor, keep their back against the vehicle seat, and keep their knees naturally bent while in a passenger vehicle.
