The WACO Warrior football team is set for a neutral-site test tonight in Leon against Fremont-Mills. The Warriors have rolled to a 3-0 record with wins over Central City, Winfield-Mt. Union and HLV by a combined 138-29 score, including a 48-7 Homecoming win last week against HLV, where they built a 40-0 lead in the first half and cruised to victory, piling up more than 350 yards rushing as six different Warriors accounted for touchdowns including one each for Nick West, Casey Coakley, Trey Edeker, Niles Reichenbach, Jacob Graber and Kellen Shelman with two for Hayden Shelman. Defensively, WACO won turnovers 3-1 with takeaways for Reichenbach, Joseph Tousignant and Kellen Shelman. This year, the Warriors score 46 per game and give up nine. WACO averages 340 yards per night, 271 on the ground and 69 through the air. The Warriors are +2 in turnovers. Individually, Nick West and Hayden Shelman have split time under center, combining to go 26/37 passing for 209 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. Top receivers are Teage Pepper and Rafe Davison with five catches each. Kellen Shelman has two touchdowns. On the ground, Hayden Shelman has 53 carries, 495 yards and 10 touchdowns. On defense, Davison’s 15 tackles are best and six different Warriors have takeaways. WACO is in the top 10 of eight man in 11 categories.

Fremont-Mills is 2-1 this year with wins over Boyer Valley and CAM and a loss to Woodbine. Last week against Woodbine it was a 54-12 loss, trailing 36-6 at half. Sawyer Forney threw for 24 yards, a pick and a score to JW Linkenhoker, he also added a rushing touchdown. The Knights lost turnovers 4-0. On the year, the Knights score 28 per game and give up 23 with 230 yards per game, 140 rushing and 90 passing. Freemont-Mills is +6 in turnover margin. Individually, Forney is 30 of 59 throwing for 422 yards, seven touchdowns and an interception, top target is Linkenhoker with nine grabs 138 yards and three touchdowns. Forney also leads with 25 carries, 75 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Linkenhoker has 29 tackles, Forney and Sam Sanchez each have three interceptions. The Knights are in the top 10 of eight man in five categories. This week, Warrior head coach Chad Edeker talked about the keys for his team. “It’s all about growth. Even though we had our defensive line back, and a couple of key pieces on the offensive line, we were so senior-laden last year that this team had a lot of growing to do. They have grown a lot in three weeks! We’re going to have really grow up and be ready to go this week because Fremont-Mills will bring it!”

WACO won the only previous meeting between these teams in 2023, 26-20. Action starts tonight at 7p.m. At Central Decatur High School.
