The Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) recently awarded more than $1.3 million to help homelessness prevention efforts in every county in Iowa.

The Shelter House located in Iowa City that serves Johnson and Washington counties received $104,000. The Muscatine Center for Social Action in Muscatine, which covers Cedar, Muscatine, Louisa, Henry, Des Moines, and Lee counties also received $104,000.

The funding comes through the new Iowa Homelessness Prevention Fund (IHPF) and aims to help hundreds of Iowans at-risk of homelessness. The fund supports flexible, community-driven interventions such as short-term financial assistance, landlord mediation, housing navigation services, and case management to keep individuals and families stably housed and out of emergency shelters or unsheltered homelessness.

The IHPF expands eligibility for services. This broader approach allows partner agencies greater flexibility to meet the unique and immediate needs of their communities, including for those who may not qualify for other forms of assistance. In total, $1,335,000 was allocated from IFA’s fiscal year 2026 Emergency and Innovative Housing Fund.
