The No. 3 in Class 3A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team tested themselves with tough competition at Saturday’s Iowa City West Tournament. The Hawks were winners by sweep over No. 14 in Class 5A Cedar Rapids Prairie 21-14 and 21-17, but dropped matches to No. 12 in 5A Bettendorf 21-19, 16-21 and 15-9, No. 1 in 4A Clear Creek Amana 21-7 and 21-15, Ankeny 21-17, 18-21 and 15-12 and the home Women of Troy 21-17 and 22-20. Leaders on the day for the Golden Hawks included Avery Helmuth with 48 assists, Jovi Evans with 47 assists, 38 digs, 34 kills and seven aces. Elise Foster with 39 digs, Harper Pacha with 25 kills, nine blocks for Laurin Fay and six each for Jeorgia Evans and Tessa Bombei and 10 aces for Katelyn Harland with seven for Jovi Evans. The losses are the first of the year for the Golden Hawks as they drop to 12-4 ahead of a Thursday trip to Wilton.
