A tight game early Friday turned into a Danville win over the visiting Columbus Wildcats 26-14. Columbus scored the only points of the first quarter to go up 7-0 and Danville matched it with a late touchdown before half to tie things at seven going to the locker room. The Bears outscored the Wildcats 19-7 in total after intermission. Wildcat head coach Dave Lekwa joined the KCII Radio Coaches Corner Saturday to break down what he saw week three. “We were able to move the ball early on and defensively I thought we were really good. They didn’t score their first touchdown until the final minute of the first half and that really hurt us. We were just not recognizing some of their front and where they were at. We were able to move the ball some in the third, but just not consistently enough to threaten them. They did an excellent job in the second half on defense. They really locked us down in the passing game. They got the ball to start the third quarter and they just punched us in the mouth right down the field. Angel Ineichen had another nice night. He went over 100 yards rushing, that’s all three games this year he’s been over 100. He does a lot of good things. Rey Resendez scored a touchdown, he had a nice night. We just have to do a better job spreading the ball around.”

Danville won total yards 410-199, including 199-152 on the ground 211-47 through the air. Angel Ineichen hit the century mark on the ground with 116 yards on 25 carries with a touchdown. Rey Resendez added a rushing score. Trevor Phillips was seven of 19 throwing for 47 yards with an interception. Lamar Ceant, Tyson Kaalberg and Elliot Wessley each caught two passes. Drew Totemeier led the way with 11 tackles and a fumble recovery. Ineichen also recovered a fumble and Resendez had an interception. Columbus drops to 1-2 with the loss as Danville improves to 2-1.
