The Agricultural Science Academy at the Washington County Kirkwood Regional Center offers local high school students a hands-on, college-level experience that lays the groundwork for future careers in this field. One of many career academies that are available.

Through courses like Principles of Agronomy, Survey of the Animal Industry, and Intro to Ag Business, students explore key topics while gaining insight into the many careers available in agriculture. The Academy gives students a head start with college credits that can transfer either to Kirkwood’s Agricultural Sciences program, or to the four-year college of their choice, opening doors to fields like ag business, natural resources, landscape design, and more.

This is one of many academies offered at the Regional Center. Kirkwood Washington County Regional Center Director Tera Pickens shared how many students utilized the College Credit in High School program last year, and how much they saved doing so, “Last year, during the 24-25 year, we served 550 students. Those high school students earned 5,131 credit hours, and that resulted in a tuition cost savings of just over $1.1-million for Washington County families.”
