The Highland High School music department is adapting to season changes. The marching band had been set to play at two home football games and is pivoting to perform for the community at a different venue while cheering on fellow Huskies. Band Director Andy McDonald says one additional performance has been scheduled at Highland’s home volleyball game on October 2, as well as a tentative performance at volleyball senior night on October 9. These evenings will give the marching band students an opportunity to perform the music the band has prepared over the past month and a half.

McDonald described his students’ reaction to the proposal, “I think they really like that plan, even though we had spent a lot of time working on marching fundamentals, and a lot of time working on just getting sets on the field and cleaning those, I think they’re fine with cutting their losses there to still perform the actual music.”

The band’s show for the 2025 season is based on the musical and movie-musical “Wicked.”

While McDonald hasn’t finalized plans to make up fundraising shortcomings, he says a plan is on the way.
