
The 40th Annual Monticello Panther Invitational Saturday, saw the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk cross country teams continue their early season dominance. The Golden Hawk girls won their second straight team title with 32 points, Western Dubuque was second with 70 points. Mid-Prairie put all five of their scoring runners in the top 20 and their first four in the top six, led by Kendal Landstrum second in 19:28, followed by Brooklyn Stutzman fourth, Rachel Hostetler fifth, Tessa Brokaw sixth, Hannah Rodgers 21st, Kyrie Poll 34th, Nikkari Poll 46th. Monticello’s Mary Grace Lyons won on her home course in 19:02. After their race, Landstrum, Stutzman, Hostetler and Brokaw talked with KCII sports about their day. “It was definitely pretty warm today. We came in mentally prepared for that. We have trained for this. We were excited about the course. I think we worked well together during the first and second miles. We really helped each other get through that. The team knew what they had to do, and they did it really well today. Meets like this and the season so far are really fun!”
In boys action, the Golden Hawks were eighth of 12 teams with 198 points. Western Dubuque was the winner with 50. The leader was Max Swartzentruber sixth in 17:31. Quentin Nauman was the winner in 16:13. Other Golden Hawks included Luke Brokaw 34th, Jesse Stultz 45th, Reece Waters 52nd, Archie Damschen 73rd, Tyson Huber 75th, and Ben Lothamer 78th.
