The girls race was highlighted by the first career championship for WACO’s Josie Dykstra, beating the field by more than 30 seconds in 20:12. Warrior head coach Caylon DeVaul talked about her performance. “With Josie Dykstra, our big thing was go out, run a smart race, be a little more conservative, be in control, be relaxed, first mile, second mile. She just kind of pulled away in that third mile. She ended up winning by 30 seconds. This is her first career win. She went 20:12, last year her fastest time was 20:08, which is the school record. To go out and get even close to it this early, on a tough course, is just awesome!”

Macie Carter was fourth and Deedra Garber 42nd.

Top team performance went to the Lone Tree Lions with their runner up score of 69. English Valleys won the meet with a perfect 15. Top runner for the Lady Lions was Lydia Hartman 18th in 24:02, followed by Addyson Eiben 19th, Jazmine Nino 22nd, Carlee Sexton 23rd, and Ava Christofferson 35th. Lion head coach Alberto Cortez talked with KCII sports about his team’s night. “The ladies killed it. We had a breakout from our freshman girl Lydia (Hartman) over a two minute PR. With Addy (Eiben) if you look at the times she ran last year, she’s running 30 seconds faster already. Jazmine (Nino) almost a minute PR. Carlee (Sexton) 33 second PR, which is huge. Ava (Christofferson) ran almost two minutes faster than she did at Hillcrest. Their dropping times, it’s exciting that they’re buying in!”

Columbus was fourth with a team score of 98, led by Isabel Rendon 12th in 23:26. She was followed by Gabriela Duran 27th, Rozlynn Garza 33rd, Amelia Fulton 38th, Ellie Valencia 44th, and Naomi Allchin 45th.
