The latest chapter in the Washington and Mid-Prairie volleyball rivalry went the Golden Hawks way Monday in a three-set sweep at the Demon Den. The No. 4 in Class 3A Hawks were winners by scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-17. Following the match, Mid-Prairie seniors Harper Pacha and Katelyn Harland talked with KCII Sports about the win. They said, “It’s about staying together as a team. This is our year. First meeting, first practice, that was our goal, come out strong. We’re really focusing on playing together as a team, being positive, and our serve/receive. Everything else will come together once we get that pass down. (Tonight) we did a really great job passing and we limited their runs. (Tonight) our defense was really good and we were consistent on our serves. (Beating Washington) is great. It’s nice to have that win under our belt over our country rivals. Definitely a good win.”

Mid-Prairie leaders included Jovi Evans with 15 kills, digs and assists each with five aces. Jeorgia Evans had 16 digs, Avery Helmuth had 13 assists, Harland nine kills, Pacha two aces and two blocks each for the Evans’, Harland Laurin Fay and Siera Crowner. Top Washington performers included Leighton Messinger with 10 kills Layla Green five, Reagan Miller had eight assists, Carys Miller seven. Ellie Farmer finished with 10 digs, Taylor Miksch nine, Green and Sarah Berdo had two blocks each and the Millers a block each. Mid-Prairie is 10-0 after the win, Washington dropped to 4-7.
