One of two men charged following a hayrack ride crash that injured multiple middle-school aged children in Keokuk County was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Thursday. In July, 36-year old Daniel Brubaker plead guilty to 10 counts of child endangerment resulting in bodily injury and three counts of neglect of a dependent person, felony charges.
The charges stem from an October 14, 2023, incident in which a goose-neck trailer went into a ditch and injured multiple children near What Cheer. Brubaker was allegedly operating the vehicle.
Brubaker’s sentencing came the same week that David Heady was found guilty of 13 felony counts of child endangerment following a trial that was moved to Mahaska County. Heady will be sentenced on October 17th and he is being held in the Mahaska County Jail.
