Construction on the prairie outdoor classroom shelter at the Langwood Education Center near Grandview has been completed. The project completion was announced by Louisa County Conservation.
The shelter is located at the head of the Wetland Interpretive Trail immediately adjacent to the parking lot. It is designed to provide shade for visitors to the trail and for Louisa County Conservation events.
The shelter was funded through a gift from the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust and a grant from the Community Foundation of Louisa County. The majority of the shelter was constructed by MidAmerican Energy – Louisa Generating Station.
While the structure itself is finished, additions are still coming for the shelter. Plans are already in motion for the purchase of accessible picnic tables, the installation of electrical outlets, and eventually public rental opportunities.
- The Langwood Education Center is open year-round.
