A Keokuk County man was arrested on felony theft and burglary charges by the Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, 43-year-old Travis Wayne Ehrman of Sigourney was taken into custody at around 1 a.m. Saturday morning with the help of Keokuk County Conservation and Keokuk County Emergency management.

According to court records, a burglary of a storage unit in What Cheer was reported on August 15 after a blunt object was used to pry and destroy the door’s lock. Fifteen plastic totes were taken from the unit containing around $35,000 worth of collector coins and bills. Various Craftsman Tools, a floor jack and a Schumacher brand battery charger were also found at the scene.

A matching battery charger was later found in a vehicle in which Ehrman was a passenger, at which point Ehrman fled. He was arrested just over two weeks later.

Ehrman is charged with first degree theft, a class C felony, and third degree burglary, a class D felony.

Ehrman has been released on bond, his initial hearing is scheduled for September 9.
