Highland High School’s Makerspace Classroom, which received a Washington County Riverboat Foundation grant earlier this year, is nearing completion.
The creative space for students is set to include a recording studio for music and podcasts, a green screen with lighting and cameras for video, and a graphic design studio among other equipment.
The space is expected to be ready for student use sometime in the fall semester.
Dean of Students Bill Zywiec said that the new classroom will give students a chance for more applied learning, “It’s going to allow teachers to take what they’re learning in the classroom and give the kids a hands-on opportunity to actually produce their own products, which is going to be essential.”
The grant awarded by the WCRF was for $13,498 and the total project is estimated at around $27,000.
