
The Washington Demon volleyball team started their season with tournament action Saturday at Grinnell. Washington finished the day with a 1-4 record, scoring a three set win over Carlisle 21-10, 19-21 and 15-12. Decorah knocked off Washington in three 21-16, 19-21 and 15-13, and the Demons were swept by No. 1 in 4A Clear Creek Amana 21-14 and 21-16, No. 10 in 4A Cedar Rapids Xavier 21-11 and 21-16 and West Liberty 24-22 and 21-14. Demon stat leaders on the day included Regan Miller with 62 assists, 20 digs and four aces. Leighton Messinger had 34 kills and 24 digs. Layla Green finished with 20 kills and 11 blocks. Ellie Farmer had 26 digs and Taylor Miksch 21 digs, 14 kills and three aces.
The Demons are 1-4 on the year and begin defense of their Southeast Conference title tonight when they host Mount Pleasant.
