The Columbus Community School District’s football and soccer field sod regrading project is nearing completion according to Activities Director Michael Aragon.

The project was originally planned to be finished before the start of football season, but flooding in Columbus Junction caused delays on the project over the summer.

Aragon says he expects the field to be ready for week five of fall activities, “We plan to have the football field ready, our first home game will be our homecoming game on September 26 against New London.”

Aragon went on to describe the process of getting the field ready following the flooding, “At the end of the day I think it just needs a little more sun and a little less rain. I’m looking at it right now and it’s looking a lot better than it did even just two days ago.”

Work on the project began on March 10 of this year. The expected cost of the project is $352,333.
