It’s a rivalry renewed tonight in Wellman, and the Washington Demons will be looking to resume their program’s historic success over the home Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks in a game you can hear on KCII.

The Demons enter with no record on the season after hosting Muscatine last Friday for a scrimmage. Unofficially, Washington outgained the Muskies in total yardage 55-42, with neither team reaching the end zone. Kael Williams passed for 36 yards, with Liam Roberts racking up 21 receiving yards. In 2024, Washington scored 23 points per game, gave up 22 and averaged 280 yards a contest. Senior quarterback Williams returns after an all-district campaign last year, leading Washington with 528 rushing yards and 10 total offensive scores. Fellow senior Caden Greiner will look to aid in the ground game, with nearly 100 rushing yards a season ago. Williams is the returning pass-catcher with over 200 receiving yards in 2024. Defensively, junior Blaine Rees is back as the leading tackler with 51-and-a-half, while junior teammate Brady Krantz returns to the Demon lineup having recorded four sacks last season. Josue Jara and Rudy Wolfe combined for a pair of fumble recoveries. Washington piled up 20 takeaways in their nine games last year.

The Hawks also enter with no record after a trip west last Friday in a scrimmage against the Grinnell Tigers. Mid-Prairie put up 29 points per game last year, gave up 17 and averaged 308 yards a night, 159 through the air. One of the school’s best signal-callers is gone in Brady Weber. Weber threw for over 1,700 yards last season including 11 scores. Workhorse running back Hudson Ehrenfelt looks to have another monster year in his senior season after tallying 1,365 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns in an offensive all-district MVP junior year. Kaden Kos is the returning pass-catcher with 298 yards and three scores as a receiver last season. Kos earned defensive all-district MVP honors last year after recording a Class 2A-best 108-and-a-half tackles, 22-and-a-half for loss, two sacks and a pick. Ehrenfelt had two interceptions. Mid-Prairie had 16 total defensive takeaways last season.
