A motion to suppress was held this week related to a Louisa County man facing 51 felony charges of possessing child pornography. Curtis Canny was charged in March with 41 felony counts, following 11 charges filed in January.
The motion to suppress was related to items found on phones discovered when law enforcement executed search warrants related to Canny’s stepson, Coletrane Sipes. Canny and Sipes resided at the same address at the time. Records indicate a phone allegedly belonging to Canny was found in a common area of the home and recovered by authorities, who then obtained another warrant to search the electronic devices. Child pornography images were discovered.
According to court records, pretrial conferences for Canny and jury trials should be continued to a later date. Previously a jury trial had been scheduled for August 12th.
Sipes is facing a felony charge of stalking a person under 18-years old after a phone was found hidden at Columbus High School. At the time, Sipes was a substitute teacher and it’s alleged he was using the phone to record a specific juvenile without her knowledge. The trial for Sipes has been scheduled for September 30th in Louisa County.
