
The new running season got underway Tuesday for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk cross country teams with a trip to the Elliot Athletic Complex and the Mount Vernon Invitational.
The No. 1 in Class 2A Golden Hawk girls had the best team finish of the two, taking second of eight schools with 38 points. They were edged out by the home champion, No. 2 in Class 3A Mustangs with 36. Rachel Hostetler led the way for the Hawks, placing second by just over a second in 19:10. Evelyn Moeller of Mt. Vernon was the individual champ. Other top Hawks included Kendal Landstrum fourth, Brooklyn Stutzman fifth, Tessa Brokaw seventh, Rebekah Wallington 21st, Hannah Rodgers 23rd, and Kyrie Poll 29th.
The Mid-Prairie boys placed seventh of eight with a team score of 179. The No. 4 in Class 3A Mustangs completed the team title sweep on their home course with a winning score of 23. Max Swartzentruber led Mid-Prairie with a ninth place finish in 17:42. Mt. Vernon’s Dawson Scheil was the winner in 16:06. Other Golden Hawk runners included Jesse Stultz 34th, Reece Waters 60th, Tyson Huber 71st, and Cayce Damschen 102nd.
The Mid-Prairie boys and girls are back in action Tuesday when they travel to Williamsburg.
