Washington County Extension held a Women in Ag Farm Crawl on Friday with stops at five area ag-businesses. The event had 26 individuals taking part.
The day began at West Fork Farmstead in West Chester hearing about the Wilson family’s farm and diversification.
Next was the Twin County Produce Auction and Stringtown in Kalona where attendees could do some shopping and watch the live produce auction that is held on Fridays.
The group traveled to Miller Homestead Cooking for a traditional Amish meal and learned more about the Amish community. The group observed where the family trains 50-60 colts each year as another part of their business.
The event concluded at HB Flowers and Beef near Tiffin. The owner Morgan Hibbs shared her passion for cut flowers and raising local beef, as well as her busy life as a young mom, agricultural educator and FFA Advisor at a local school district.
Funds for this event were supported by the Women’s Ag Advisory Board, to support women in agriculture, preserve farmland, and educate current and future farmers in Washington County.
