
Washington County experienced a slight increase in unemployment rates from June to July according to recent data from Iowa Workforce Development. In July, Washington County’s unemployment rate was 3%, up from 2.9% in June. In addition, it is an increase from July of last year when the rate was 2.5% unemployment.
Statewide, the unemployment rate was 3.7% in July, an increase from 3.1% a year ago.
Across Iowa, Marshall County has the highest unemployment rate at 6.1%. Meanwhile, Sioux, Adair, Carroll and Osceola Counties have the lowest at 2.8% unemployment.
When comparing July of 2024 to July of this year, only five counties in Iowa have experienced decreases in unemployment: Jefferson, Dubuque, Des Moines, Clay, and Adair. The other 94 counties all experienced increases in unemployment rates.
