Welcome To Riverside

The Riverside City Council approved the purchase of a piece of equipment by the Riverside Fire Department and discussed repairs of one of the department’s fire engines at the council’s meeting last Monday.

The first piece of equipment approved by the council was a skid unit for the fire department’s Polaris ranger. The skid unit will allow the department to more quickly and effectively respond to emergencies not near roadways that are difficult for the department’s trucks to access. The council approved the purchase for $8,890, accepting the middle of three bids at the request of the fire department, which cited the unit fitting its UTV better than the cheapest bid as its reasoning for requesting the second bid.

The council also discussed an RFP which the fire department has sent out to repair one of its engines which was damaged over the summer. Fire Chief Chad Smothers said that he expects bids to be ready to present to the council for its first meeting of September, and that he has heard back from four companies concerning the bidding process.

The Council’s next meeting will be on September 8, a week later than usual due to Labor Day.
