Eight teams converge on WACO High School tonight for the Warriors annual season opening volleyball tournament.

The Sigourney Savages are among those attending today’s tourney. Sigourney was 17-6 last year, second at 7-2, second in the South Iowa Cedar League. The Savages graduated assists leader Taylor Rozenboom with 329, kills leader Josephine Moore with 193 and her team-best .271 efficiency with a Sigourney-leading 284 digs and 28 aces, and Reagan Clarahan with 48 blocks. Top returners are Bailey Gretter with 225 digs, 175 assists, 89 kills and 22 aces, and Addy Fineran with a .196 efficiency and 34 blocks. Last season Rozenboom, Moore and Clarahan were All-SICL.

Columbus will also compete tonight. The Wildcats were 11-17 as a club last year, their most wins since 2020, 5-3 and in a tie for third place in the Southeast Iowa Superconference North Division. The Wildcats bring back stat-leaders Daniela Diaz at 428 assists, a .417 efficiency, Jessica Del Rio with 139 kills, Hailey Wellington with 13 blocks, and Jocelyn Hernandez with 322 digs. They graduated Aracely Garza with her team-best 38 aces. Garza, Del Rio, Diaz, Hernandez, Aubrey Hoback and Kennedy Woepking were All-Conference last year.

The home Warriors were 8-19 last year, 3-6, fourth in the Southeast Iowa Superconference North. WACO returns all of their stat leaders including Morgan Meyer’s 190 assists, Carlee Lunsford’s 99 kills and .072 efficiency, Brenna Graber’s 314 digs, Kinsey Hildebrand’s 33 aces and Drew Graber’s 18 blocks. Lunsford and Brenna Graber were All-Conference a season ago.

These teams will be joined by Burlington Notre Dame, Pekin, Centerville, Van Buren and Louisa-Muscatine. Action tonight starts at 5p.m. In Wayland.
