Louisa County officials will be taking part in Saturation Saturday.

On Saturday, August 23, the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Columbus Junction Police Department, will join departments across the nation for Saturation Saturday, a high-visibility enforcement campaign aimed at getting impaired drivers off the roads.

Started by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) in 2016, this coordinated effort supports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign and targets one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Drunk driving deaths have risen 31% in the last decade. In 2023 alone, 12,429 people died in alcohol-related crashes. Expect to see increased patrols, sobriety checkpoints, and zero tolerance for impaired driving.
